tpc / Lauberhorn downhill race

Join Bruno Kernen on a race down the Lauberhorn course: With the first 360° video of a FIS ski race for tpc, we have made the ride on the legendary Lauberhorn course a virtual experience.

In January 2014, the customer tpc commissioned us to implement the first 360° video of a FIS ski race.

Six “GoPro” action cameras, a courageous test driver, a computer with 32 processor cores and a day’s work on the screen: These ingredients were needed for the world’s first FIS descent in a 360° panoramic video. The GoPro cameras were already a commercial device at that time, but the 6-fold use was completely new.

During the entire three-minute ride, SRF spectators can change the viewing angle to a full 360° as if they were standing on their skis themselves. This allows them to experience special key points of the descent, such as the head of a dog, at close range.

As there were no 360° players available according to the state of technology at that time, we also developed a possibility to watch the film online.
