From the Torah ark up into the domes
The prayer hall of the Basel Synagogue in one high-resolution all-round image, from the Torah ark up into the domes.
The neo-Byzantine domed building of 1868 is a cultural property of national importance. In 2012 the prayer hall was documented in full, up to the painted ceiling panelling with medallions in Hebrew lettering.
Everything was shot from the floor, the ceiling between the two blue domes included. So it stays visible in every detail, although it can hardly be reached.
The images record the state of 2012. Later restoration work drew on them.
