In 2007 the Forum of Swiss History told the history of panoramic photography. At its centre stood a walk-in rotunda twelve metres across, with all-round views from 15 summits, taken for it by Matthias Taugwalder. Outside, 15 stations around Lake Uri extended the exhibition.

From excursion mountains such as the Rigi, Pilatus, Titlis, Jungfraujoch and Eggishorn, the journey led to Piz Bernina, the Mönch and the Jungfrau, the Dom, the Matterhorn and up to the Dufourspitze. Binoculars with sensors followed every movement of the head and brought the point in view closer, forerunners of today’s VR headsets.

The view of the high Alps, without the climb. After Ernst A. Heiniger’s Swissorama at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne (1984), the rotunda was among the first all-round projections in Switzerland. Rotundas on the Eggishorn, in Stans and in Lucerne followed.
