A century of mountain photography, on the trail
The view from the summit of the Aletschhorn, without the way across the glacier.
For the exhibition “Der Berg im Bild”, a walk-in rotunda was built in the Eggishorn summit station. Its picture in the round, by Matthias Taugwalder, shows the view from the Aletschhorn, the four-thousander that stands outside, across the Aletsch Glacier.
On the hiking trails around the Eggishorn, four picture boxes led to the spots where the early photographers stood. Under each lid lay their historical picture of the region, taken from exactly that point.
Whoever walks the trail compares a hundred years of mountain photography with today’s view. The exhibition opened in July 2008 in the summit station and stayed for several seasons.
