Mammut / #project360 Everest

With the 360° documentation of the whole Everest south route in the context of #project360, another milestone of virtual mountaineering was set.

Together with the local Sherpas, we broke new ground for our customer Mammut. They were equipped with our specially developed camera system and took the road to the summit. The expedition from the Nepalese side to Everest is the crowning highlight of our cooperation with Mammut within the #project360 campaign.

The specifications were tough: Only if a complete documentation will be available at the end, the project was successful. The uncertainty as to whether everything would work out, and with it the tension in the entire team, was very high.

We spent a total of five weeks in the base camp on the Khumbu glacier. In charge of the production management, we coordinated the shootings and made sure that the cameras ran for several days. The safety of our four Sherpas had top priority.

The conditions in the Himalayas at over 8000 meters were even more extreme than at all high alpine outdoor shootings before. Not only did the technology have to withstand the icy cold, the aggressive wind of over 60 km/h also posed some challenges for the camera equipment.

After the successful summit ascent, the material was published only a few days later. Within the scope of #project360, the exclusive picture material was used multimedia.

Internationally, this project reached over 180 million people and is one of Mammut’s most successful PR campaigns in terms of reach.
