Report «North Face of the Eiger», Launch iPad edition of Blick - blick.ch
The Swiss newspaper Blick launches today its new iPad app. Part of the first issue is a report about the Eiger mountain and the 75 year anniversary of the tragic accident around the climbing team of Hinterstoisser and Kurz. The report includes spectacular 360 degree panoramas from inside the notorious North Face of the Eiger.
In July 1936, a team of 4 climbers - consisting of Toni Kurz, Andreas Hinterstoisser, Willy Angerer and Edi Rainer - set off to tackle «the last problem of the Western Alps». On July 21, 1936 three climbers died after a sudden weather change and avalanches, only Toni Kurz survived. Due to the bad weather conditions Kurz could not be rescued and died one day later because of exhaustion - only a few meters away of his rescuers.
I shot the three featured panoramas about 2 weeks ago at the so called «Stollenloch» spot, in the middle of the North Face.
